Xmas treat for female inmates

Herald Reporter
Elshadai World Ministries yesterday treated female inmates at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison by hosting a Christmas party for them at the correctional facility. Speaking at the party, Elshadai World Ministries’ Apostle Juliana Magaisa said it was important to remember women in prisons as well as to accommodate and to give them support.

“Our mandate is to raise and develop women in all spheres of life no matter what situation they are in,” she said.

“We believe that these women can add value to our nation and build it. These women are equally important as any other woman outside the prison.

A woman is a mother and a guardian so we should respect them and give them equal opportunity after they leave prison and impact good things to others.”

Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services spokesperson Chief Superitendant Elizabeth Banda hailed the initiative saying it would help inmates to share ideas on the importance of good behaviour and help them deal with their situations.

“Elshadai Women’s visit has become an annual event and we thank them for opening their arms to us. Women have the chance to understand that there are people out there who care and understand them hence they will also respect themselves,” she said.

Female inmates at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison also received clothing.
