URBAN grooves duo Xtra Large is set to release a 14th project, as it seeks to rekindle its status as one of the biggest stars to emerge in the Zimbabwean music industry.
Xtra Large, famed for the hit song Uriroja comprises Jimmy Mangezi and Norman Manwere. The album, titled The Truth is set to be launched before the end of the month in Harare.
“We named it The Truth because Xtra Large is the truth, we are just saying we are still here, have always been here and we will never go extinct as we are the real deal and that is the truth that we are talking about in our album”, Mangezi said.
Mangezi said they had a lot to share with the fans.
“There are many social and economic aspects we wanted to share with the public, but we were told that the CD could only carry 12 tracks. Unreleased tracks will be performed at live concerts,” he said.
Xtra Large has been stunned by criticism from people as they have been accused of being less visible lately, but Mangezi said they were back in the game to prove a point.
“Urban grooves has been overshadowed by Zim Dancehall lately, The Truth album is set to revive the urban grooves genre in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Mangezi said they have been involved in grooming and nurturing upcoming artistes.
“Our love for music has influenced us to be involved in projects that seek to discover young artistes. One of our projects helped us find artistes who have become well established artistes in Zimbabwe. Dancehall sensations Shinsoman, King Shady, Yoz, and RnB superstar, Trevor Dongo are among artistes that were discovered by Xtra Large,” he said.
Mangezi said as a group, they have faced their ups and downs. -@kayskudzai
