GENESIS Mangombe questioned the match officials’ decision to deny Dynamos a second goal at Rufaro yesterday, suggesting that maybe she should go back to school to read about the laws of the game.
The Derby, which attracted a big and lively crowd, ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Kevin Moyo converted a penalty in the 52nd minute but Ralph Kawondera scrambled the ball home for the equaliser, eight minutes from the end of regulation time.
In between, DeMbare’s Shadreck Nyahwa was lucky to escape an expulsion after a horror two-footed lunge on Junior Bunjira.
Mangombe’s disappointment came in the 76th minute when Sadney Uri-Khob appeared to have settled the game for Dynamos by scoring the insurance second goal.
However, his celebrations were cut short after assistant referee Claris Simango picked out that two Dynamos players, including the Namibian forward, had strayed offside.
“I am worried about how we lost concentration towards the end, I am happy that we managed to score even though I thought we scored twice,” said Mangombe.
“That rebound, maybe, the boys were offside but I thought it was a rebound.
“If the goalkeeper spills the ball and one goes and finishes it off, it’s a clear goal but I don’t know.
“Maybe I have to go back and study again the laws of the game. But it’s (bad officiating) going on and on and there is nothing I can do to change some of these things.
“We are still worried about how these games are being handled. But it’s a game of football and a point against CAPS United is still appreciated.”
Well, Mangombe is wrong because it doesn’t mean that a rebound eliminates offside and, if any player who then coverts the rebound was in an offside position, when the ball was initially struck, the strike will be ruled out.
Television replays cleared showed that Urikob had strayed miles offside when the ball was struck towards goal and, by converting the rebound, he was offside.
If there is a case against referee Brighton Chideme then it will be about the time he ended the match in the 90th minute when there had been long delays in the second half.
CAPS United coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, hailed his players’ fighting spirit to fight back and get a point.
