YOU JUST CAN’T SEPARATE RIVALS SCOTTLAND, MWOS

Sports Reporter

THREE months ago, they needed a ZIFA boardroom decision to confirm who had won a titanic battle in the Northern Region Division One Soccer League.

Scottland and MWOS were involved in a titanic duel for a place in the domestic Premiership which captured the imagination of the nation.

On the final day of the season, both clubs unveiled T-shirts claiming they had won the league championship.

However, the reality was that the Mabvuku side won the marathon, after finishing two points clear of MWOS, but their success was only confirmed in the boardroom.

Scottland officials always boasted that in their head-to-head battles against MWOS, they picked four points after a victory and a draw.

MWOS decided to buy a franchise to play in the domestic Premiership this season.

And, it seems, football simply can’t separate the two bitter rivals.

They both won their opening games of the season and by a similar 1-0 scoreline.

Scottland needed an own goal by Triangle to beat the plucky Lowveld side at Rufaro.

MWOS needed a moment of madness by the Bosso ‘keeper to stun the Bulawayo giants 1-0 in their first game at Baobab.

And, on the latest Premiership table, the two clubs find themselves in familiar territory one team sitting ahead of the other.

While it was Scottland who finished ahead of MWOS last season, this week it’s the Norton side who found themselves just above their Mabvuku rivals. While they have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored, MWOS are in third place by virtue of having an initial (M) which comes earlier than (S) on the alphabet.
