Starting next month, Saturday evenings in Bulawayo are set to undergo an exciting transformation as a local radio station has introduced a fresh sound to its line-up, roping in young wheel-spinners as part of their broadcasting.
Nizhe DeSoul (NDS) Academy, the city’s burgeoning DJ school, is claiming its rightful place on Skyz Metro FM, allowing students to showcase their skills and creativity to a wide audience as the young DJs will be playing on Saturdays at the station.
Founder of the academy, Nizhe DeSoul, revealed that their collaboration with Skyz Metro FM will give the students more exposure and a platform to share their talents and dreams with listeners.
“I am glad that the station has opened doors for us, and we hope that the young wheel spinners will have a great experience as they will play music for a wider audience.
“This is not the first gig for the students to reach such a stage. I talk to a lot of local event promoters and ask them to give them some playtime, even if it is for the early time slots.
“They are very capable, and for them to get more gigs like these, will help them gain valuable exposure, as it will fine-tune their live performance skills,” said Nizhe De Soul.
Since its inception in September 2025, the academy has made remarkable strides. Having begun with basic beat-making lessons, it has now evolved into a nurturing ground for aspiring DJs eager to break into the professional scene.
In less than six months, the academy has turned from a budding institution into a launchpad for local talent, providing students with invaluable exposure.
The inaugural student showcase, held in October last year, marked a significant turning point for the academy. This live event not only took students out of the classroom, but also placed them in front of an audience for the very first time.
“The buzz generated from this successful showcase demonstrated that these students were more than just hobbyists; they were ready to take their skills to the next level. The show was a pivotal moment that highlighted the potential of young DJs in Bulawayo,” said Nizhe DeSoul.
With the spotlight now shining on them, these talented young DJs are ready to prove that they have what it takes to entertain and inspire through the art of music mixing.
