Internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean producer Young DLC (Darlington Chikwewo) is set to bring his globally influenced sound to Bulawayo for the first time, arriving in the City of Kings and Queens with charting releases, major collaborations and a mission to connect with the country’s growing creative community.
The award-winning producer will make his Bulawayo debut at the famed Garden of House event on Sunday, August 9, where he will join an international line-up featuring Funky Q LA, Robotic DFC and Kitchen Mess for a showcase expected to be one of the city’s biggest electronic music experiences.
Born in Harare, Young DLCs professional journey took off with a breakthrough on Coke Studio South Africa (2016), where he produced the track Run Away for Aewon Wolf and Jade McDonald. He went on to become a two-time resident producer on Coke Studio Africa (2017 and 2019), where he collaborated with some of Africa’s biggest music stars including Jah Prayzah.
Over the past decade, Young DLC has carved a reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s leading electronic music producers, blending Afro House, Afro Tech and traditional African sounds to create a distinctive musical identity. His impressive production catalogue includes collaborations with some of Africa’s biggest names, including Patoranking, Olamide, AKA, Yemi Alade, Rayvanny, Nasty C, Jah Prayzah, Sha Sha and DJ Maphorisa.
His music has also gained international exposure through platforms such as BET Africa, Disney and CNN, while his commercial productions have featured in campaigns for global brands.
His recent projects include Tendai Chidarikire x Young DLC’s Muzezuru Remix, Mokoomba’s Munaye (Young DLC Remix) and his original single Ngoma dzeNhau, further cementing his position as one of the country’s foremost contemporary electronic music producers.
Beyond the charts, Young DLC’s work has made waves on international platforms. He produced the opening sequence for BET Africa’s ISONO (2020), contributed to Disney’s Kizazi Moto: Generation of Fire (2023), and his productions featured in Burna Boy’s documentary on CNN.
Speaking to Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub ahead of the performance, Young DLC said he was excited to finally connect with Bulawayo audiences.
“I’m really excited to be making my Bulawayo debut at Garden of House. I’ve heard so many great things about the city’s music culture, and I can’t wait to share my sound and experience that energy with the people,” he said.
Beyond the stage performance, Young DLC’s visit will include engagements aimed at empowering local creatives. He is expected to meet selected producers and vocalists from Bulawayo, creating a platform for knowledge exchange, networking and possible future collaborations.
