A NEW wave of young female fashion designers is redefining Mutare’s creative landscape, bringing bold ideas, cultural expression and fresh talent into the city’s growing fashion ecosystem.
This vibrant energy was on full display at a recent fashion exhibition held at Ubuntu Backpackers, where emerging designers showcased their work under the coordination of Mutare Tales.
One of the standout creatives was beadwork artist, Christine Chademuwiri, founder of Christine’s Creative Creations.
Her brand celebrates African identity through colour, symbolism and storytelling.
“I am a passionate beadwork artist inspired by the vibrant traditions of African culture. My designs draw from the bold colours and deep symbolism of Zulu beadwork and each piece tells a story of identity, beauty and heritage. At Christine’s Creative Creations, we celebrate culture, creativity and connection,” she said.
Her work reflects a broader cultural revival taking root among young designers who are reclaiming traditional aesthetics and translating them into contemporary fashion.

Also, captivating audiences was 17-year-old visual artist, Patience Rutendo Mundoita, who specialises in abstract portrait painting and customised denim. Despite her age, her artistic journey is already well defined.
“I liked drawing ever since I was young. I would always take online art lessons and I improved my skills day by day,” she said.
Her signature is transforming ordinary jeans into unique, hand-crafted fashion pieces.
“I can decorate jeans very nice and they would even look different even if they are old. Any design you can count on me.” Driven by passion and ambition, Patience remains optimistic about her future in the creative industries.
“The love I have for art is really unconditional. I know one day I will fly higher than I am now,” she explained.
Mutare Tales programme manager, Tawanda Manyuchi said the fashion showcase is part of ongoing efforts to uplift young creatives in the city.
She said the objective is to give a platform for upcoming designers in the city, noting that the exhibition brought together several budding fashion innovators whose work deserves wider visibility.
As Mutare continues to nurture its creative economy, these young women are emerging as powerful voices blending heritage, personal expression and entrepreneurial vision.
Their work signals a promising future for fashion in Mutare and their stories are only just beginning.
