Young film makers to launch first short film

The film is a product of Collabo Films which is run by a group of young up-and-coming film makers whose intention is to take film making to a higher level.

The script for the film was written by Melusi Mkandla, winner of the Mthwakazi Arts Award for young writers in 2008 and it was was directed and produced by Learnmore Sibanda.

The film tells the story of a promiscuous township boy who wakes up one morning to find an infant dumped outside his door step.

What follows is a comic journey, which sees the young man transverse the length and breadth of his township in search of his old girlfriends, in a desperate bid to find the child’s mother.

In an interview member and actor of Collabo Films, Arthur Makowane, said the film was about showcasing the trials and tribulations of township life, while also highlighting the dilemmas that township youth of today face.

“The film is an attempt to bring out the difficulties that youth in the township face. In the film we tried to highlight how pre-marital sex and other ills that plague our society these days are affecting the youths,” he said.

Makowane said they used their own resources to fund the production of the film.

“We as Collabo Films decided to pool together our own resources and make something worthwhile. We hope to look back at this film in future and be proud. We believe youths are now ready to take film-making forward from the level that the likes of Cont Mhlanga have taken it,” he said.

Makowane said the group would soon be working on new projects and has already lined up workshops for young film makers.
