Young Igwee readies 2nd album

Peter “Dhewa” Moyo is set to launch his second album, Mabasa aMwari at 7 Arts Theatre in Harare on September 4.

The six-track album which follows Mushonga Mukuru (2013) is Dhewa’s appreciation of God’s love and guidance which has seen him transform.

“God has been faithful to me hence the title of the album. Transforming from being a football player to being a musician didn’t happen because I’m clever, but it was God’s favour,” Dhewa said.

Tracks on the album include Samasimba, Mavanga, Rudo Pasina, Mhosva Dzemudzinza, Domestic Violence and a bonus track Pasina Mari. which features Botswana dance sensation Slizer.

Dhewa said he tried to be original on the latest offering, bringing his own flair and avoiding sounding like his late father, Tongai.

“I don’t want to sound like my father, so though it will sound similar to his work, the new album has my own feel,” he said.

On Samasimba, Young Igwee asks God for strength to pull through during hard times.

“In my music career, I’ve come across people who pretend to like me. So in Samasimba I’ll be asking God to give me strength to overcome such people and the courage to face obstacles,” he said.

The musician is optimistic about his forthcoming album, promising fans a quality product.

“I believe that we’ve set the bar high as the sound on this project matches international standards. We’ve worked extra hard with the producer, Munya Viyali to produce something that can compete on the international stage.”

With many doubting Thomases, Dhewa is confident his latest offering will convince them otherwise.

“I know many people are doubting me, but I know that with this album, I’ll definitely go places. The first album was average, but with this one, fans should expect to be blown away,” he said. — Harare Bureau/Showbiz Reporter.
