The visitors extended their lead in the 26th minute when Esther Sunday, who was a handful to the hosts, left her marker for dead and drilled the ball past goalkeeper Portia Mukucha.
The Nigerians, who missed a couple of chances in the second period, then added another goal six minutes from full-time when substitute Orji Ebere’s rising beat Mukucha hands down.
Zimbabwe chased shadows the whole afternoon and were disjointed in the middle of the park, especially in the first half with the only meaningful chance falling to Rudo Neshamba in the 35th minute when she broke loose only to fire her effort over the bar.
The only incident which excited the good crowd, which had come out to support the girl child and was boosted by the supporters who had gone to Gwanzura to watch the Motor Action versus CAPS United, was when a crow collapsed onto the pitch.
The crowd cheered on and when the crow interfered with play, the referee summoned her courage and picked it up and threw it off the pitch.
The crow, which had appeared dead, flew back into the sky much to the amusement of the fans who were clearly starved of action on the pitch.
However, some of the fans turned into foes after the match when they invaded the pitch and started throwing missiles and celebrating on the pitch and the behaviour may attract a fine for Zifa from Caf.
Young Mighty Warriors coach Langton Giwa said he was disappointed as he had worked hard assembling a competitive side.
“We lost the battle in midfield as we were losing the ball unnecessarily and that is where the Nigerians took advantage. I don’t have much to say. I am disappointed with the defeat as we worked so hard hoping we would qualify for the World Cup,” said Giwa.
Falconets coach Edwin Okon said his team is aiming for the World Cup title and was happy with their away performance.
“We don’t care who we will meet in the last round. We just want to qualify. And everyone knows what happened in Germany two years ago. I am sure we will win the World Cup this year with God on our side it is possible,” said Okon.
