YOUNG Sables coach Sean De Souza says his side is fully focused on their semi-final tie against Tunisia tomorrow despite their opponents trying a few mind games ahead of the clash.
The two sides are stationed at the same hotel in Kenya where the tournament is taking place. According to De Souza, their opponents seem to be deemed on winning the game psychologically.
“We are in high spirits and excited ahead of the semi-final tie. Tunisia keep chanting Zimbabwe here at the hotel but we are focused on what we are here for. The way they are conducting their business shows they want to win the mental battle before we get to the field of play,” said De Souza.
He went on to say preparations for the game are sailing smoothly.
“We had our review with the referees’ panel regarding incidents on the first day. We raised concerns in some certain areas and we believe they will look into our concerns going into the semi-finals. Tanaka Ndoro’s ankle is
under review today and we will get information on that later in the day,” said De Souza yesterday.
Zimbabwe’s opponents in the last four won their quarter-final encounter won 50-16 against Madagascar.
The other semi-final will see Kenya face Namibia.
De Souza’s men, the Barthes Trophy defending champions were a far much better side in the match as they sounded warning signals that they mean business in defending their title.
Zimbabwe won the last edition of the competition after beating Namibia in the final.
The young Zimbabweans managed to lift the trophy following their three matches without defeat.
The Zimbabweans defeated Tunisia 19-18 and Madagascar 32-3 in the semi-finals, before beating arch-rivals Namibia 19-14 in the final. — @innocentskizoe.
