Young Solobala gets AC Milan accolade

Harare’s high-density suburb of Kuwadzana has been chosen to participate in the AC Milan Continental Cup as the captain of the Under-11 Elite team.
Italian soccer giants AC Milan will cover all the expenses for him to travel to this competition in the United States in July.
Young Solobala was chosen for the AC Milan Junior Trials programme run by Munya Maraire’s World Wide Scholarships in partnership with AC Milan in August of 2011 and is now already on the AC Milan Elite team.
When contacted yesterday Maraire said: “I am proud of Simon and know that he will go all the way to allow his legs to pay for his bills.
“Simon is a humble youth from Kuwadzana who has not had as much professional training as those he was competing with and this is something special to watch.
“The story of a young man coming from a tough background and being able to one day change the destiny of his whole family.
“He is truly an inspiration for Zimbabwe and the youths.”
AC Milan director Eddie Marles added: “Simon is a natural player. He has all the potential to go all the way if he continues to be watched over and taken care of.”
Maraire also said that they were excited about the talent in Africa and Zimbabwe “and as the Africa representative for AC Milan, it is good to start at home before the rest of Africa sees their fruit also flourish”.
Thew World Wide Scholarships director also said that the AC Milan trials for 2012 are now open and registration has begun for the April 20- 22 event.
“Players are urged to register and parents to support their children who are good at soccer.
“This will be the first phase selection then players will be chosen to participate in the AC Milan Junior Camp Africa in August where AC Milan scouts will be on site doing final evaluations of which players will be chosen to go to the AC Milan Junior Tournament in Milan in October.
“We are about to open this opportunity to the best 10 professional soccer players in Africa later this year and we will begin to discuss these issues with Zifa and the PSL very soon as we iron out the relevant paperwork.
“Many of our players have gone onto great heights in soccer and this must continue. Africa, I believe, has its wealth locked up in its sporting talent and we are determined to unlock it.”
