The return leg is set for the weekend of October 27 – 29 but in a letter copied to Caf, Zifa requested for the return leg to be pushed to the weekend of November 5 – 7 after the completion of the exams.
“Our ‘O’ Level examinations, which are a mandatory for every 16-year-old boy and girl to write, are held from October 15 to October 30 every year and it has crippled our preparations as most of our players are set to write their exams.
“Please allow us an extension possibly to the weekend of November 5 – 7 2012 to enable us to send a full strength team as parents will not allow their children to miss the examinations,” read the letter.
Zimbabwe Junior Football chairman Zivanai Chiyangwa said in case Caf did not postpone the game, they will send Form Three students into battle.
“I think we will know by Wednesday but if they don’t consider our request we will have to look for students who are in Form Three because most of the players are writing their exams,” said Chiyangwa.
Before they left camp on Sunday, the Young Warriors received their allowances of US$1800 from Zifa president Cuthbert Dube for their triumph against Mozambique in the first round. The money was distributed between all the players.
Zifa also wrote to Caf protesting against the use of over-aged players by Congo Brazzaville during their Under-17 African Youth Championship clash at the weekend.
Zifa wants an independent MRI bone testing be carried out by Caf to determine the correct age of the Congolese players.
