Transformation with Mildred
A story is told of two men, each trapped in a deep dungeon in the middle of a very cold night. There was a bunch of logs in each of the dungeon and one man said to himself, “It is cold and dark in here, I have to do something about it.”
Looking at the logs, he decided to light a fire, to keep himself warm and to adequately light the area. Within a moment, he was feeling warm and the fact that he could see around him gave him some comfort.
Meanwhile, the other man in the other dungeon was saying to himself, “It is cold and dark in here, there has to be a way out.” Looking at the logs, he decided to make a ladder. It was a difficult task working in the cold, barely seeing in the dark, but with focus and determination, he managed to work out something.
By morning, he was out of the hole, while the other was still inside, more desperate than ever before. You will agree with me, dear reader that the difference between the two men’s fate was in the way they dealt with their raw materials.
One great man once said, “Every man is given the raw materials of his soul: his dreams, his mind, his instincts. It is what he does with them that determines his destiny.”
You and I have a crucial destiny. We were created to transform, to become, to impact, to build something greater than us, to leave a legacy behind us — permanent footprints on the slate of life, if you may. We were adequately equipped for this purpose, as we were endowed with unique talents, blessings, beautiful dreams and an inner fire to achieve.
Like the logs in the dungeons, these are our own raw materials to use on our respective assignments!
It is essential to note that the One who created us never promised us a smooth journey, but He promised to be with us each and every step, guiding us, protecting us and strengthening us. He is our biggest resource!
Along the way, we will definitely meet opposing forces, some distinct and some very subtle. But take note of this: every detour is meant to sharpen your skill not floor you down, every pain is meant to build your resilience, not kill you and every doubt is meant to strengthen your resolve, not drive you into surrender.
Distractions, instant gratifications and quick fixes will be thrown in your path, as temptations to ease off your discomfort. These may include things like drug or alcohol abuse, extramarital affairs, sexual immoralities, binge eating, social media addictions, gossiping etc.
These are all traps meant to sway you from your focus! Yes, where you are may be cold and uncomfortable, but do not be tempted to burn your logs for temporary comfort because you will need them for a permanent breakthrough.
Allow yourself to go through the discomfort, the tunnel cannot last forever.
Before long, you will burst out into the open and bright sunshine! If you put your raw materials to effective use you, will no doubt reach the peak as you are meant to, maybe battered, maybe scarred but definitely not broken, for you are a warrior, with a victorious spirit!
I would like to challenge you today, to look closely at your life and surroundings. There are raw materials within you, some of which you may not even be aware of yet and therefore, not yet used.
I hope you won’t be tricked into disposing them carelessly, resulting in you imprisoning yourself further. What can you deliberately create with your raw materials? I suggest a raft, a ladder — any kind of device that can take you from the place you are right now to a higher and more beautiful place. Most importantly, I hope what you create is something that will inspire others in their respective dungeons to also start creating their own rescue tools.
Remember, God would not give you a dream without the means of accomplishing it. You have everything you need, do not sabotage your purpose and destiny for temporary comforts.
