THE 11th edition of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games that will be held in Bulawayo next month will see the inaugural online accreditation of delegates as the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) moves along with the rest of the world in terms of technology. This emerged during the well attended second and final Youth Games General Managers’ assembly meeting held at a city hotel yesterday as preparations for the Games hit the home stretch.

Presenting his report, Zscore chief executive officer Peter Mawere, whose company designed the new system, said the tedious paper work will now be a thing of the past.

“The new system will not only be used for accreditation but other relevant information like results and end of day summary of events will now be easily accessible even from the comfort of your offices,” said Mawere.

He said unlike in the past, this year there would not be any congestion because work will be done electronically.
Mawere said deadline for accreditation of athletes was 5 August while that for the rest of the delegates was 31 July.

An official website www.zscorea2z.com has been set up where applicants are able to download the accreditation form and fill it before submitting it.
The Games will run from 17 to 25 August.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same occasion, the SRC director of sport development Joseph Muchechetere challenged provinces to prove to the Government that the Youth Games are a serious activity so that the Games can receive adequate funding.

He said the money which the Government usually forwards to the Youth Games is mainly for food and not for putting up of infrastructure like playing courts.

Muchechetere said the quality of the competition at the Games must improve to justify corporate involvement.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Provincial Education Director for Bulawayo, Dan Moyo, who was speaking on behalf of the Governor and Resident Minister for Bulawayo, appealed to the corporate world to come on board and help with about $110 000 needed to resurface five volleyball courts at Milton High School and three netball courts at White City Stadium.

He expressed confidence that all projects identified by the last General Manager’s session in May would be completed before the start of the sporting extravaganza.

Five institutions have already been identified as venues and accommodation places, namely United College of Education, Bulawayo Polytechnic College, School of Hospitality, Hillside Teachers’ College and the National University of Science and Technology.

Three high schools have also been chosen for accommodation and these are Northlea and Milton High Schools as well as Girls College.
