Youth league chair in the dock for armed robbery

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West youth league chairman Vengai Musengi has appeared in court, facing charges of  armed robbery involving ballot material during the party’s primary elections.

He was arrested on Thursday night and appeared before Chegutu magistrate Mr Felix Chauromwe, who remanded him on $200 bail.

Musengi was ordered to reside at his given address, not to interfere with State witnesses and to surrender his passport.

It is alleged that Musengi confiscated marked ballot papers from Murambe Primary in Chegutu East Constituency at gunpoint during the first round of voting in the Zanu-PF primary elections.

He allegedly caused the abandonment of the voting process.

Musengi is expected back in court on June 28.

He was represented by Mr Owen Macharaga.

Musengi is battling Cde Webster Shamu and Cde Julius Murombedzi to represent Zanu-PF in the forthcoming elections.
