The National Blood Service of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has commended youths for playing their part in donating blood following a decline in the blood bank.
NBSZ communications officer, Kudakwashe Chidziya, said strategic partnerships and initiatives such as campaigns will go a long in ensuring that blood stocks meet the country’s demand.
“We are impressed by the consistent donation of blood by young people in helping save people’s lives.
“This shows that young people are trying their level best to solve the shortage of blood in the country.
“NBSZ is going to come with more strategic partnerships and initiatives such as more blood collection campaigns,” said Chidziya.
Chidziya said NBSZ needs about 316 units of blood a day.
“Our blood stocks were critically low this past month and we were not able to meet our daily target of 315 units of blood.
“But we are seeing a great improvement with new blood donors coming forward,” he said.
The move comes after the organisation recently engaged in a strategic partnership with Redan in a move aimed at intensifying blood donation campaigns.
