A DATABASE for youths involved in mining is being compiled by Miners for Economic Development to enable young people to access financial support and create synergies.
Miners for Economic Development youth chairperson Mr Gabriel Togarepi said they were registering youths who were into mining to formalise their operations in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of an inclusive economy.
“Young people are determined to contribute more to the country’s economic development and have lobbied the Government and private sector to scale up support towards growing young businesses,” he said.
Speaking soon after being elected as the new chairperson of the youth quota in Miners for Economic Development, Mr Togarepi said youths could only be empowered through formalising their mining operations to attract capital from banks and other stakeholders.
Mr Togarepi took over the reins from Mr Talent Kadaire at the group’s annual general meeting held in Chirumanzu.
With thousands of youths taking advantage of numerous opportunities created under the Second Republic, Zimbabwe is steadily growing its domestic economic base, and the mining sector is no exception.
“We want to bring all youths in mining together in line with Vision 2030. We want to ensure all youth members involved in mining are registered. We need to formalise our operations. This will help us to get financial assistance from financiers,” Mr Togarepi said.
Miners for Economic Development will be exhibiting at the 44th Independence celebrations in Murambinda, Manicaland next month.
