Youths urged to take control of their destiny

The three-day conference, which is running under the theme “Youths struggle against imperialism — we choose our own future”, began in Harare on Wednesday with delegates expected to deliberate on a number of global socio-economic and political developments and how to achieve peace and curb neo-colonialism.

The Zanu-PF Youth League is playing host to the internationally acclaimed event, which is being attended by hundreds of delegates from across the globe.

“The youth have demonstrated their energy, vibrancy and principled stand on issues pertaining to the promotion of true democracy, human dignity and defence of sovereignty, freedom and independence, defines them as impeccable revolutionaries,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

“We admire the courage, steadfastness, solidarity and clarity of vision demonstrated by the youth, which showed their uncompromising rejection of pseudo-democracy as championed by Western powers.”

Cde Khaya Moyo also commended the youths for refusing to be colonised and rejecting puppetry, which is admired by sellouts.

“Democracy as defined by the West is riddled with double standards.

“What is in their interests is wholesome. What is not in their interests must be demolished at whatever cost.

“Revolutionary leaders must be eliminated and reactionary leaders must be nurtured and rewarded in various forms.

“The youths have refused recolonisation and puppetry so admired by sellouts, who claim leadership which is remote controlled by their paymasters in the West,” he said.

He urged the youths to take control of their destiny as the country is moving on with the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme.

“In Zimbabwe we embarked on the land reform programme which has been a tremendous success and now we have moved on with our indigenisation and economic empowerment programme, in spite of the illegal economic sanctions imposed on us by the West as a regime change agenda.

“There is no going back and the youths must take the lead in this voluntary effort. What belongs to us is ours and we must take charge, control and responsibility. These God-given resources must be in our custody,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

He said the youths should always be action-oriented and show leadership through discipline and unity of purpose.

“The youths must have a desire to overcome, a dream to succeed and indeed a vision. You lose nothing when you are fighting for a cause.

“The youths must never be tempted away from the revolutionary path but must remain united, focused and principled as our tomorrow begins today and let this conference set the tone for action,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

Zimbabwe is playing host to the conference for the first time since the formation of the organisation in 1945. Last year the event was held in Portugal in Europe while the ANC Youth League of South Africa was the host in 2010.

The conference brought together, for the first time in the history of the international youth movement, representatives of more than 30 million young people of diverse different political ideologies and religious beliefs from 63 nations. It adopted a pledge for peace.
