ZAA and IOM sign historic Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen diaspora engagement

THE Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), marking a significant step toward enhanced collaboration on diaspora engagement and migration development initiatives.

The agreement, signed by Mr Conrad Mwanza, president of ZAA, and Ms Diana Cartier, Head of Mission for IOM Zimbabwe, in Harare on Wednesday, sets the foundation for a strategic partnership aimed at amplifying diaspora contributions to national and regional development.

The MoU outlines areas of cooperation including coordinated diaspora-focused initiatives, joint events and forums, strengthened communication on migration issues, and increased visibility of development programs. It also emphasizes the importance of promoting positive migration narratives and fostering collaboration among governments, diaspora communities, and development partners.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to cooperation, knowledge exchange, and impactful programming, while paving the way for future collaborative initiatives. 

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Mwanza highlighted the importance of the partnership in leveraging the Zimbabwean diaspora as a key driver of economic growth and development.

Ms Cartier echoed this sentiment, noting that the collaboration aligns with IOM’s mandate to promote humane and orderly migration while supporting sustainable development.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to cooperation, knowledge exchange, and impactful programming, while paving the way for future collaborative initiatives. 

The partnership is expected to significantly enhance diaspora engagement platforms and create new opportunities for investment, dialogue, and development across Zimbabwe and beyond.
