ZACC arrests Mazowe District agronomist

Mazowe District agronomist, Joseph Garati has appeared in court for criminal abuse of duty after he was arrested by ZACC.

Garati was granted US$200 bail when he appeared before a Concession Magistrate court.

Allegations are that Garati who is employed by the Agricultural Extension Services recommended the engagement of Kenrod Marangwanda

for the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) commercial farmers’ joint venture programme.

The accused allegedly confirmed to ARDA that Marangwanda had access to 100 hectares of land under irrigation, when in fact he did not

have.

Acting on the recommendation, ARDA issued agricultural Inputs for 100 hectares to Marangwanda.

As an agronomist, Garati was responsible for verifying reports by agricultural extension officers.
