THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has recovered US$21 million in forfeited assets, seized US$17 million worth of property, and frozen bank accounts holding nearly US$1 million since 2019.
Speaking at the commission’s Strategic Planning Workshop in Nyanga this morning, ZACC chairperson, Mr Michael Reza said the achievements marked a decisive step in returning stolen wealth to the State.
“This is money being recovered for the people of Zimbabwe. It is also a clear message to the corrupt that ill-gotten wealth is not theirs,” he declared, adding that case files valued at US$217 million have been handed to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for prosecution, further stressing ZACC’s intensified crackdown on corruption and illicit enrichment.
The workshop, attended by ZACC commissioners and key institutions such as the NPA, Auditor-General’s Office, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Judicial Service Commission, and others, seeks to craft the commission’s 2026-2030 strategic plan.
Mr Reza said the upcoming five years would be a period of radical transparency in the fight against corruption, with ZACC evolving from being a reactive to proactive body.
“We are a public institution funded by public resources. Citizens must have access to information about the work we do on their behalf. It would be a dereliction of duty if they struggled to know what their anti-corruption body is doing,” he said.
Mr Reza also called for stronger collaboration with the media and other national stakeholders, urging public officers to uphold the highest ethical standards.
“As we hold others accountable, we must also hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity. The fight against corruption must be bold, visible, and driven by radical transparency,” he said.
