adminZION Apostolic Church in Zimbabwe Bishop David Masuka has died. He was 65. Bishop Masuka died on Tuesday at midnight after a long illness.
According to family spokesperson and son to the late bishop, Mr Felix Masuka, the late Bishop Masuka was battling blood cancer for a long time but doctors only discovered this three weeks before he died.
He died while admitted to Avenues Clinic in Harare.
Bishop Masuka was buried yesterday at his rural home and church headquarters in Peresu Village, Bikita under Chief Budzi.
He is survived by wife Jane Mangena (60) and 11 children, six boys and five girls.
Bishop Masuka became bishop in 2003 following the death of his father, Bishop Johannes Peresu Masuka.
Under his leadership, the church spread its tentacles across Zimbabwe and is found in all districts and urban areas.
“My father fell ill three weeks back and we rushed him to Avenues Clinic in Harare where the doctor diagnosed him with blood cancer but his condition deteriorated on Tuesday before passing on at midnight,” said Mr Masuka in an interview on Friday.
“As we lay him to rest we are both mourning and rejoicing because he left a legacy, a legacy of worship and teaching Godly ways. As his children, we will miss his advice and wisdom.”
Zion Apostolic Faith Mission Church Bishop Jameson Pedzisai expressed shock at the loss and said the church had lost a God-fearing man who had turned many people’s hearts.
“We are mourning a gallant fighter in the ministry and we will cherish his preaching that he was always dishing to us. He was a dedicated leader in the church who would openly denounce bad ways without any hesitation. I depended on him for guidance in how to administer church and I now feel lost as he was my saviour when it comes to getting wise counsel.
“Above all, he made many people to turn to God and become Christians,” said Bishop Pedzisai.
