The Zimbabwe Association of Funeral Assurers (ZAFA) and its affiliate, Funeral Services Association (FuSA), will be hosting a funeral assurance and services conference in Gweru from July 26-28.
ZAFA president Dr Edward Gomba told a Press conference that the theme of the upcoming conference in Gweru will be “Raising the standard in economic and social transformation”.
“This is the first platform that brings together funeral industry players and their stakeholders from Zimbabwe and the region,” said Dr Gomba.
He said the conference will promote funeral industry players in Zimbabwe through sharing of knowledge and experiences. It will also raise the status and professionalism of the members and provide a networking platform.
Mr Gomba said the National Funeral Directors of South Africa will share with Zimbabwe counterparts their experiences and this will help improve the operations and businesses of the funeral industry players.
“At the conference we will focus on information technology advancement, corporate governance and ethics, micro insurance and risk management”.
He said despite the economic hardships in the country the industry is striving for the better and providing good services to the members.
He added that the group is advocating the creation of a Southern African Funeral Assurers and Services Association that will be able to manage some challenges which come with the repatriation of bodies.
“We will discuss with our regional counterparts the idea of forming Southern Africa Funeral Association to help harmonise funeral procedures and regulations in the region,” he said.
