Mzilikazi, like most youths in Matabeleland, has a dream to taste and experience the big city life.
His version of life in the city is given to him by his drunkard father who never seems to get tired of retelling how, for 20 years, he managed to conquer the city.
The arrival of the Zambezi Express train brings with it life to the “Zambezi Junktion”.
Those that are from the big city automatically become the streetwise. They introduce the celebrated township dance called “Mapantsula”.
Gogo comes and gives Mzilikazi a lucky charm, the Nyaminyami “god of the Zambezi River”, and the next thing it is a hustle and bustle as Mzilikazi catches the Zambezi Express train to South Africa.
His arrival in the big city is not as glorious as he had anticipated. The musical fuses various genres of dance and sounds, from the traditional Ndebele war dances, acrobatics, a bit of hip-hop moves and the township mapantsula.
Acapella, choral, traditional and township chants keep the audience entertained for the entire 90 minutes.
