TWO Zambian clubs are expected to grace the Zimbabwe Handball Federation’s Women President’s Trophy tournament at Harare’s Girls High School at the weekend.
The tournament is scheduled to run from Friday to Sunday with more than 40 teams expected to take part.
ZHF president, Amon Madzvamuse, said they have invited two clubs from Zambia and they have already confirmed their participation.
“We are expecting two clubs from Zambia, which is going to add some flair to this event. We gave them an invitation and they confirmed their participation. They are expected to arrive in Harare on Friday, in fact all teams should check in on Friday,” said Madzvamuse.
Madzvamuse said over the years, women’s participation in handball has been disappointing and the tournament is a platform for them to showcase their talent.
“The idea is to empower our women’s clubs as we have seen that in the past years men’s clubs were dominating. In terms of competition, we have seen that on our male side, the level of competition is very high. I believe a platform of this magnitude gives our female players the opportunity to be recognised, prove that they can also do it and that they can organise themselves very well.”
