THIS year’s edition of the Mr and Ms Ironman body-building contest set for Kadoma at the end of the month could be getting a foreign flavour in Zambian hulk, Sylvester Mwila.
The National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness are planning to host the event at The Odyssey in Kadoma on June 28 and registration of athletes is underway.
But it is the confirmed participation of Mwila which will add colour to the event as he will perform as the guest poser.
NFZBBF spokesperson Quiet Shangai said the highly-rated Mwila has agreed to grace the occasion.
“We are happy that Sly Mwila from Zambia has agreed to come and be the guest poser and could be one of the top attractions for the night
“He is currently Mr Zambia. He won it six times in a row. He came to Zimbabwe and participated at All-Africa Olympia 2012 finishing second to South Africa’s Vusumzi Njisane in the heavyweight category,” said Shangai.
Shangai said the main sponsors, The Odyssey, were giving cash prizes in addition to household goods.
“We have now set the prestigious Ironman show for June 28 and we hope a lot of people will be able to attend seeing that this will be a month-end,” said Shingai.
“The main sponsor has availed more than US$10 000 towards this year’s Iron Man. There are also household goods such as televisions, fridges and dining suites.
“We hope top athletes like Zumailer, Noah Dzvokora, Tapiwa Chibota, Sugar, Vincent Kandiyero, Regina Jonga, Paul Goredema, Reginald Pasara and Paul Matimbe will take part,
“Last year we had a successful competition at the same venue and this year we have decided to return, mainly because of the support we got from the hosts.
“It’s also refreshing to get some of the big events away from the major towns so that we get more people interested in the sport.”
Last year, Vincent Kandiyero won the event after he beat Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga and the two giants are once again the pre-event favourites.
