Zambian smugglers caught

THREE Zambians and a woman from Binga were arrested for entry by evasion and smuggling of goods from Binga into Zambia.

ZimParks officials bumped into the suspects while they were patrolling along Lake Kariba at Lokola Fishing Camp in Binga last week at around 10pm on Tuesday.

The suspects, Steven Mudenda (35), Gift Siampangani (18) and James Kanyemba (25), all of Simunyika Village, under chief Mweemba in Zambia were arrested for entry into the country by evasion, and smuggling.

A source close to investigations that preferred anonymity said the ZimParks and Wildlife officials carried out further investigations on the mission of the suspects leading to the discovery of another accomplice.

a�?Investigations revealed that there was another female accomplice Tutandabale Mudenda (29) of Manjolo Village; under Chief Sikalenge in Binga and the quartet was smuggling fertilisers from Zimbabwe into Zambia.

a�?The suspects led the parks and wildlife officials to where their female accomplice Tutandabale was, along Lake Kariba shores. She was found in possession of 19 by 50kg of compound D of fertilisers and a speed boat which they used for transportation,a�? said the source.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Siphiwe Makonese could not be reached for comment as her mobile phones went unanswered.
