ZANU PF yesterday said Zimbabwe’s economic trajectory remains firmly on course towards achieving Vision 2030, with the ruling party’s Economic Affairs structures declaring confidence in the newly launched National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which runs from 2026 to 2030.
Addressing secretaries for economic affairs drawn from all provinces at the party headquarters in Harare, Zanu PF Secretary for Economic Affairs Lieutenant-General (Retired) Dr Engelbert Rugeje, in remarks delivered on his behalf by deputy secretary for economic affairs Cde Endy Mhlanga, said NDS2 would consolidate the gains achieved under NDS1 and accelerate the country’s march towards an upper middle-income economy.
Dr Rugeje said the workshop was convened to ensure that the party’s structures fully understood the expectations and economic priorities underpinning NDS2 following its launch by President Mnangagwa on November 27.
He said the seamless transition from NDS1 to NDS2 reflected the success of ongoing reforms, which had anchored fiscal discipline, reduced inflation and strengthened mining-led growth — foundations that were further affirmed by the 2026 National Budget presented by Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube last week.
“In line with His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s mantra of ‘leaving no one and no place behind’, this workshop ensures our structures are fully equipped to inform the nation across all provinces and the diaspora, countering disinformation and negative narratives,” he said.
Dr Rugeje emphasised that NDS2, building on the Transitional Stabilisation Programme and NDS1, will accelerate progress in macro-economic stability, infrastructure development, agricultural productivity, value addition and the ease of doing business — areas that have defined the Second Republic’s reform agenda.
He urged economic affairs secretaries to be “torchbearers” of the party’s economic messaging and to spearhead dissemination of accurate information on NDS2 in communities nationwide.
Dr Rugeje said the party’s Economic Affairs Department, as mandated by the Zanu PF constitution, would continue collaborating with Government institutions to ensure policy cohesion and facilitate socio-economic transformation.
He encouraged delegates to “harness opportunities” under NDS2 and fully appreciate the import of the 2026 National Budget, which marks the first fiscal year of the new economic blueprint.
