a resounding success as it gave the party a clear direction, national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the conference, which was attended by about 6 000 delegates from the party’s 10 provinces, proved Zanu-PF critics wrong as it has reinvigorated the party ahead of elections next year.
“It was indeed a very productive conference. The address by President Mugabe gave the party a clear direction of our destiny in line with the theme of the conference that said ‘Defend national sovereignty, consolidate indigenisation and economic empowerment,'” said Cde Khaya Moyo.
“This was a landmark and a far-reaching conference which opened a new chapter into the future of this great nation. Our critics have nothing to offer to the people save for relishing selling out. They will remain critics and they will not enter the kingdom.
“It was quite evident throughout the conference that Zanu-PF is the only party with clear policies and programmes that are people-centred. The participation by delegates in the various committees and during the plenary sessions was very informed and most positive.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said the conference ended on a high note and commended President Mugabe for calling on the party to strategise for the next harmonised general elections early next year. He said he was convinced that the party will post a landslide victory against its opponents.
Cde Khaya Moyo also paid tribute to President Mugabe for donating 60 tonnes of seed maize to delegates and computers to Sobukhazi Secondary School. He said the donations showed how committed the revolutionary leader was to improving education and food production in the country.
In separate interviews, Zanu-PF provincial chairpersons for Bulawayo and Matabeleland South, Cdes Isaac Dakamela and Andrew Langa respectively, also commended the conference saying the convention addressed pertinent issues that affect them.
“The truth is that I am satisfied about the conference. Unlike other conferences where there is factionalism and disorder this one was characterised by peace and discipline,” said Cde Dakamela.
“There were also no negative reports from all the venues where our delegates were accommodated. All the service provision and logistics did run smoothly throughout the conference.”
Cde Dakamela said other political parties should learn a lesson from Zanu-PF on how the political game was played. Cde Langa said the conference progressed smoothly and applauded the indigenisation programme.
“The conference went on very well. It was quite successful as it deliberated on issues that we expected to hear as Matabeleland South, such as the indigenisation programme,” said Cde Langa.
“I am happy that the conference agreed that this programme should continue and be implemented without fear or favour. The programme is meant to empower all Zimbabweans regardless of political affiliation, race, colour or creed.”
Matabeleland North Zanu-PF provincial administrator, Cde Bigboy Nkiwane echoed the same sentiments.
“Everything went well at the conference. We support the resolutions made and commend the logistics there. Everything progressed smoo-thly,” he said.
