ZANU-PF national chairman and Defence Minister Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has expressed satisfaction with preparations for the 23rd Annual National People’s Conference, saying this year’s event will provide a platform for the implementation of party resolutions.
She made the remarks while chairing the 3rd Joint Conference Coordinating Committee meeting at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), the venue set to host the conference from October 12 -17.
Zanu PF, she said, had left no room for complacency as it entered the final stretch of preparations for the event.
“The history of our party is counting on us, and we must not disappoint,” she said.
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said the committee had presented its report to the 396th Session of the Central Committee three weeks ago, where it was well received, save for a few items that required corrections and additions.
An oversight committee comprising Cdes Patrick Chinamasa, July Moyo and Jacob Mudenda has since been established to ensure donations are handled transparently.
She said directives had also been issued to urgently address water challenges in the town and in areas earmarked to accommodate delegates.
“Water is life. We need to make sure that the reticulation system is completed before we start receiving our delegates,” she said.
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said the Politburo had assessed the conference’s preparedness index at
about 80 percent, reflecting the progress made so far, although more work remained to be done.
She commended the sub-committees for completing most of their tasks, singling out the Security
Sub-Committee for the early deployment of registration equipment to the provinces and the
Finance Sub-Committee, under Cde Chinamasa, for ensuring that most provinces had honoured their pledges.
She described the Transport and Welfare Sub-Committee as the epicentre of the conference, noting that two hostels had already been renovated, while the remaining facilities were expected to be ready within two weeks.
Zipam had also received resources to enable it to meet its targets, she said.
Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri said the conference was not merely an internal event on the party calendar, but one that would be watched both regionally and internationally.
“We must deliver a world-class conference that reflects our revolutionary legacy and answers the hopes and aspirations of our people for unity, peace and development,” she said.
She called on all 10 conference sub-committees to mobilise resources, both financial and material,
ahead of the gathering, which is expected to attract more than 7 000 delegates.
“The next four weeks must be defined by urgency, discipline and dexterity,” she said, urging sub-committees to execute their mandates with precision.
She said the conference must showcase the party’s unity, stability and the achievements of
President Mnangagwa’s administration under the Second Republic.
