THE 15th Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Conference starts here today with the party’s Politburo meeting in Harare. Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday said the President and First Secretary of the party Cde Robert Mugabe will officially open the conference in Victoria Falls on Friday.

He warned that the party will not allow rowdy elements at the conference, as there are fears there are some unaccredited members who would want to attend. About 6,500 delegates from 10 provinces are expected at the conference which ends on Sunday.

“Tomorrow we start with a Politburo meeting in Harare followed by the Central Committee meeting on Wednesday. I can’t say what will be discussed but we’ll give a brief soon after the meeting about what would’ve been deliberated on,” he said. Cde Khaya Moyo said no delegate would be accredited at the venue as the process was carried out at respective provinces while Politburo and Central Committee members are being accredited in Harare.

“Anybody who isn’t accredited must not waste time going to Victoria Falls because it means he or she isn’t welcome. Provinces know their members and nobody should take chances at the conference. No accreditation will be done at the venue and that’s final as everyone fit to attend has been accredited,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

The state of the economy driven by Zim-Asset will be the main focus of the conference, with deliberations based on how far the revolutionary party has gone with the four clusters of the economic blueprint. Food Security and Nutrition, Social Services and Poverty Eradication, Infrastructure and Utilities as well as Value Addition and Beneficiation make up the four clusters.

The theme for the conference is “Consolidating people’s power through Zim-Asset.” Cde Khaya Moyo said the conference will also focus on resolutions presented by each province on related matters before sessions are held where such matters will be discussed at length. Delegates will arrive at the venue, Elephant Hills Resort Golf Course on Thursday and Cde Khaya Moyo said buses will be dispatched early to ensure people arrive on time.

He said buses will be labelled with stickers with different colours per province while there will also be close monitoring to guard against breakdowns and delegates getting stranded along the way. Meanwhile, Cde Khaya Moyo said the party was grateful to the sterling job done by the organising sub committees who he said should be commended for ensuring a successful conference.

Different committees were put in place led by Politburo members. These include documentation, finance, organisation, security and accreditation, information and publicity, transport and welfare, health and entertainment.
