Zanu-PF’s 14th Annual National Peoples Conference theme is likely to be revealed after the next politburo meeting, the party’s national chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said yesterday. “The theme of the conference will come out at the next politburo meeting this week or next week. The conference coordinating committee which I chair has requested to meet all sub committees for some updates,” said Ambassador Khaya Moyo.
Last year Zanu-PF held its conference in Gweru, Midlands, under the theme “Indigenise, Empower, Develop and Create Employment” which also became the theme of the party’s campaign for the harmonised elections.
The conference will be held from December 10 to 15 in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West, and the host province is working to ensure the event is a resounding success. Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the next conference coordinating committee meeting was going to receive reports from all the subcommittees that have been working closely with the host province.
“We are going to receive documentation from the conference sub committees among them the information and publicity, health and welfare, entertainment, accreditation, transport, security and accommodation and agenda.
“We are going to receive feedback from these committees that have been working closely with the provincial committees. This is not a Mashonaland West conference, but a national one. We want all the provinces to work as a family and ensure that the event is a success,” he said.
Chinhoyi does not have bigger hotels and lodges and the party is working flat out to avoid accommodation nightmares come December 10. “Chinhoyi will accommodate a number of delegates, but there are other towns that are just one hour or one and a half hours away. We expect some of the delegates to stay in Kadoma, Chegutu, Harare, Mazvikadei and even Karoi,” he said.
The party intended to construct a US$10 million conference facility in Chinhoyi, but time is fast running out that a decision was made to erect a pre-fabricated structure for the event after which construction will continue.
Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the party wanted the conference to be a resounding success given that it was coming after the party successfully trounced the MDC formations in the July 31 harmonised elections.
