THE Zanu PF Central Committee has confirmed the co-option of Presidential Advisor Cde Paul Tungwarara into the Central Committee, representing Manicaland province. He replaces Cde Dorothy Mabika, who was elected Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairlady.
Cde Tungwarara will attend the next Central Committee meeting as a full member of the party’s highest decision-making body.
Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa confirmed the development.
“I can confirm that the Zanu PF Central Committee meeting approved the ascendancy of Cde Tungwarara into the Central Committee. He is welcome to attend the next Central Committee as a full member in accordance to the party constitution.
The Central Committee made deliberations on the issue of Manicaland on the selection of Cde Tungwarara as a Central Committee member (and) I am glad to announce that Cde Tungwarara has now been accepted as a Central Committee member of the ruling party Zanu PF,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.
He was selected in the same manner Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei was co-opted into the Central Committee last year.
“This is an injection of new blood, young businesspeople with fresh ideas on how to generate wealth of this country,” stressed Cde Mutsvangwa.
Cde Mutsvangwa said the ruling party is expecting more businesspeople to join the revolutionary party.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa has expanded Cde Tungwarara’s role from being primarily an advisor focused on Dubai to a broader mandate covering all regions, and extended his portfolio to include the empowerment front.
Cde Tungwarara has been involved in national empowerment programmes rolled out across the country, supporting communities through several Presidential initiatives, including the Presidential Constituency Empowerment Fund.
According to his letter of appointment, Cde Tungwarara was appointed in terms of the Constitution on February 23 this year.
He will serve a renewable two-year term and is authorised to “conduct mutual engagements on behalf of the Government” on issues within his “domain of responsibilities”.
