ZANU PF is committed to ensuring every woman across Zimbabwe is empowered to contribute to national development and the attainment of Vision 2030, the party’s Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona has said.
Cde Chinomona made the remarks while officiating at the distribution of chicks at the Mashonaland East Province’s Presidential Poultry Pass-on Scheme held in Murehwa District recently.
About 10 000 chicks were distributed to women at the event.
Cde Chinomona said President Mnangagwa is working around the clock to ensure women are not left behind in empowerment opportunities.
“Women also have a duty to build this nation. President Mnangagwa is on record advocating for women’s empowerment and is walking the talk on that.
“As you can see, today we have brought some chicks, they may seem few but if you take good care of them, you will earn a decent living. Take this programme seriously because this is the beginning of empowerment,” she said.
Cde Chinomona said women should never relax but work hard to transform their lives.
“You should also be empowered and contribute to the development of this nation. Our nation is beautiful. So there is no room for you to relax,” she said.
“We went to war with the oppressor so that women can also be recognised. So this is your time to shine. We have a President who is committed to women’s empowerment, and we should applaud him.”
Young Women for Economic Development founder Cde Tatenda Mavetera, thanked President Mnangagwa for empowering women.
“We brought some chicks today and we want to thank our President for this gesture,” Cde Mavetera said.
“We are saying women should not be left behind in empowerment projects. Every woman should be empowered as we march towards the fulfilment of Vision 2030.”
Individual farmers and tertiary institutions received the chicks, giving them a foundation to start poultry projects.
One of the recipients Ms Magaret Sakala from Murewa said empowering women is empowering communities.
“We want to thank everyone who played a role in empowering us women and special thanks to our President for remembering us,” she said.
“It is true that empowering women is empowering communities and we say it is also empowering the nation.
“I received my chicks today and I am excited. I will take good care of them and earn myself a decent income.”
