WITH the people’s party having romped to a deserved victory which confounded even the most ardent of detractors such as the American regime, its British poodle and former colonial master as well as local proxies fronted by the MDC formations, all indications point to the country realising total growth in all spheres. The MDC formations and all anti-Zanu-PF forces are still in shock given the magnitude with which they were humiliated.
The opposition is in disarray, with egg on its face hoping to fight another day, if ever such a day will rise as all political permutations point to the demise of the MDC-T. This presents an opportunity for the people’s choice, Zanu-PF, to deliver on its electoral promises as enunciated in its manifesto.
All the pieces to the complex Government machinery are now in place following the appointment of what is commonly known as the “fix it” Cabinet, with the opening of the Eighth Parliament by President Mugabe being the last rite in putting in motion the wheels of the new Government.
The Zanu-PF manifesto addresses all facets of national aspirations that are needed to give impetus to economic growth and social progress.
The people’s Party identified six pillars as priority areas which if adequately addressed will result in the improvement of the welfare of the populace. The six pillars are:
1. Land reform, agriculture, mechanisation
2. Social services, health, housing, urban transportation, infrastructure development and the environment
3. Employment creation and sustainable livelihoods
4. Economic prosperity, stability and development
5. Culture and religion
6. National food security.
A close look at the six priority areas which the revolutionary party proffered will reveal that it is a summation of the people’s expectations .It should be observed that as implored by the Latin adage which goes “Vox Populi Vox Dei”, indeed the people spoke when they endorsed Zanu-PF’s manifesto by voting for the party.
Now is the time for Team Zanu-PF to shame doomsayers by delivering quality service to the nation.
The new Cabinet blends experience and youthfulness and augurs well for the national task at hand. Unity of purpose and a pragmatic approach to resolving issues bedevilling the country will see the nation registering tremendous success. However, apart from other challenges that will face the new Cabinet, sanctions remain the biggest obstacle.
Innovation on the part of the new Government will make the difference as the nation marches on. The new Government has to consolidate its global influence by engaging and further strengthening ties with its Middle and Far Eastern all-weather friends who value the meaning of mutual respect and sovereignty.
Such ties will form the basis of sanctions-busting mechanisms. Zimbabwe makes no apologies about that for, indeed, as Zimbabweans we reserve the right to choose our friends. The game is no longer complex; even the so-called Western super powers have their eyes focused to the East.
It is that simple. For any nation that is worth its salt, the East has become the region of choice in business interactions. Like President Mugabe noted in one of his addresses, the West is unlikely to scrap its sanctions regime anytime soon, which therefore requires all Zimbabweans, including the recently sworn in Cabinet, to think outside the box by innovating measures that will ensure that the people’s manifesto is implemented forthwith.
Whilst Zanu-PF is preoccupied with finding solutions to the plight facing the population, the opposition, especially the MDC-T, has taken it upon itself to unleash despondency and fear upon the people. It is common knowledge that the MDC-T was and is still at the forefront of not only inviting sanctions but it is also the West’s ally in its bid to plunder the abundant natural resources that the country is endowed with.
Instead of finding the commonality of purpose characteristic of patriots that should bind all Zimbabweans irrespective of race, creed or colour, the Western-founded and funded party has taken it upon itself to be the harbinger of sorrow for the entire nation.
Its mindset is in sync with the evil machinations of the West whose sole motive is to demean the dignity of Africans through economic bondage. Bernard Membe, the Tanzanian Foreign Affairs Minister, confirmed this treacherous role which the MDC-T has infamously taken aboard.
Membe even had words of wisdom for the puppet party when he urged them to eliminate their “West is best, Africa is inferior” syndrome, warning them that their political fortunes will never turn a new leaf as long as they remained surrogates of the white establishment.
Even though Membe had wise counsel for Tsvangirai and company, the man from Buhera will never learn, given his penchant for condemning everything that portrays Zimbabwe in good light.
With Zanu-PF already implementing pro-people policies as evidenced by the scrapping of water and electricity bills that are direct consequences of sanctions-induced hardships, MDC-T is certainly headed for political oblivion.
The recent installation of local authorities’ leadership provided a glimpse of what the future holds for the MDC-T, the pending disintegration of that political outfit. Is it not as interesting as it is a bold statement by MDC-T councillors that Zanu-PF is the “in-thing” in town when they voted for its mayoral candidates in Kwekwe, Redcliff and Victoria Falls among other cities.
The spirit that currently engulfs the Zanu-PF family lays a formidable base for the 2018 general elections. Merely identifying with the people’s wishes lays groundwork for the elections whilst implementation will be the icing on the cake.
