Zanu PF eyes Glen View seat

HUNDREDS of people gathered at Chemhanza Grounds in Glen View South Constituency in Harare at the weekend for a Zanu PF campaign rally, where senior party officials expressed strong confidence in winning the upcoming by-election scheduled for April 12.

Zanu PF has nominated Cde Tsitsi Tawomhera, a 37-year-old member of the National Youth League executive, as its candidate.

She will face four competitors: Perpetua Mukanda from the NCA party, and independent candidates Chakeredza Tonderai, Tungamirai Madzokere, and George Makwangwaidze.

The seat became vacant following the death of Gladymore Hakata from the CCC party which did not nominate a candidate.

The rally featured prominent figures, including Senator Charles Tawengwa who is Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, and Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa.

They emphasised the party’s commitment to development in the constituency.

Said Cde Tawengwa: “We are here to officially launch this campaign in Glen View South. I urge the people to vote for Zanu PF for the sake of development.”

He outlined plans for infrastructure improvements, such as road reconstruction under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme and increased access to clean water through new boreholes.

Cde Masimirembwa was confident that Cde Tawomhera would win the seat.

Cde Tawomhera appealed to residents to support Zanu PF, promising significant community improvements and development.

“We are looking forward to winning the elections,” said Cde Tawomhera.

She highlighted the poor condition of local roads and sanitation issues, which she aims to address if elected.

As the Deputy Secretary for Environment and Tourism in the Youth League, Cde Tawomhera emphasised her commitment to environmental concerns and community cleanliness.

She welcomed the Government’s initiative to rehabilitate Willowvale Road and noted that additional roads in Glen View, including Glen View Way, 11th Avenue, and Third Avenue, are also listed for                                                                             reconstruction.
