Zanu-PF gears for elections

spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said yesterday.
President Mugabe has indicated that elections will be held not later than March next year.

“It is a crucial annual conference in the sense that it will come up with the necessary programmes and preparations for the upcoming elections. It will define how the party will prepare itself for the elections,” Cde Gumbo said.
He said preparations for the conference were at an advanced stage and the conference co-ordinating committee was happy with progress made so far.

“Next week a team organising the event will travel to Bulawayo to have an on-the-spot inspection. Various teams from the party have also been to Bulawayo and are happy with progress made.”
The conference will run under the theme “Defend National Sovereignty, Consolidate Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment”.

The theme is tailored to buttress the indigenisation policy to ensure broad-based empowerment of the once marginalised black Zimbabweans.
The MDC-T has announced that it is opposed to the black empowerment programme.
