ZANU PF cell restructuring is progressing well, with Harare Province given an extension to come up with authentic structures to be used as a baseline.
The restructuring is meant to take stock of party membership and recruit new members.
It started on June 17 with branch executive committees expected to carry out the restructuring of the cells and villages under their jurisdictions, with supervision from district and provincial leaders.
The head counting across the country is expected to end on July 17.
A number of provinces held their inter-district meetings over the weekend to assess progress made so far.
Zanu PF Harare Province conducted their inter-district meeting at the party headquarters on Sunday, which was attended by all party structures including National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, Secretary for Education and Ideology Cde Charles Tavengwa and Deputy Secretary for Security, Cde Tendai Chirau.
Giving an update on progress made so far as the deadline for cell and village restructuring approaches, Cde Machacha said the exercise was progressing well, but the party was monitoring the process with keen interest province by province.
“We will monitor province by province as the deadline for cell restructuring exercise nears,” he said.
Branch executive members, he said, were busy mobilising people to join the party by registering them in their cells.
“In Harare Province, we have extended their deadline up until they come-up with authentic cell structures,” said Cde Machacha.
Zanu PF Harare provincial vice chairman Cde Ephraim Fundukwa said Politburo members would now be deployed to monitor the restructuring in Harare, ward by ward, verifying the authenticity of the cells.
Harare Province will now hold a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting to plan and tell members about the latest development.
Cde Machacha said the restructuring had to be meticulous and the commissariat department would approve the outcome when satisfied with the quality of work done.
Turning to manipulation of cell structures by senior party members, Cde Machacha warned that any deviation from set guidelines would attract disciplinary measures.
“We discourage any manipulation of cell structures by senior party members. Let those given the mandate, the branch executive carry their task without any influence. What we want is authentic cell registers. Any deviation, the party will not hesitate to take disciplinary action.”
He warned land barons to stop grabbing land in Harare and cause disunity among the people.
“If you are found on the wrong side of the law, you will face the music,” warned Cde Machacha.
The revamping of cell structures is meant to enhance the revolutionary party’s presence at the grassroots level and ultimately benefit communities.
Zanu PF First Secretary and President Cde Mnangagwa has emphasised that the cell restructuring exercise must see more new members joining the party.
He has also said anyone caught attempting to buy his or her way into Zanu PF by manipulating structures must be exposed.
Every year, the ruling party embarks on a cell verification to account for its membership – both the old ones and those joining the party. The move seeks to take stock of the party’s membership in line with its constitutional dictates.
The elections of cell and village executive committees have to be done through secret ballot, with the new leadership tasked to immediately conduct verification of the members of their cells and villages to flush out imposters.
