The ruling party, Zanu-PF yesterday held a re-run of primary elections for the Insiza North national assembly by-election after it nullified the initial exercise held two weeks ago.
The Insiza North national assembly seat fell vacant following the death of Cde Farai Taruvinga in March after a long battle with cancer.
Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairman, Cde Jabulani Sibanda, who was the presiding officer said voting was still in progress last night.
He would not comment before the conclusion of the voting process. Over the weekend, Zanu PF nullified the results of the last primary election held on 3 May saying the exercise failed “to meet the minimum accepted standards”.
Matabeleland South provincial chairperson, Cde Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu, confirmed the nullification.
In the previous elections Cde Moses Langa had polled 2,478 votes followed by Cde Delani Moyo who got 1,564 votes.
Dr Qhubani Moyo garnered 983, Davison Moyo 271, Sifiso Mpofu 157, Nkosana Mthunzi 97, and Ernest Ncube 16. The results for yesterday’s elections are expected to be announced today.
