Zanu-PF in Masvingo co-opts new members

The zanu-pf leadership in Masvingo has co-opted new members into the executive to fill vacant posts, as the party gears for general elections slated for next year.

The party’s provincial secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Ronald Ndaba yesterday said zanu-pf had filled in the gaps that existed within the provincial executive.

“Our provincial executive was not fully constituted,” he said. “We had an executive meeting on Sunday under closed doors where we co-opted and elevated some of our members to the vacant positions.”

Cde Ndaba said the provincial executive co-opted former provincial youth political commissar, Cde Brian Munyoro, to the position of provincial secretary for administration. The positions of vice secretary for information and publicity, environment and tourism and business and liaison were also filled in. Cde Amasa Nhenjana, who once acted as chairman after the suspension of Cde Chadzamira last year, reverted to the position of secretary for security.

Former secretary for administration, Cde Ailes Baloyi, was elevated to the position of vice chairman and will be deputising Cde Ezra Chadzamira, who was elected recently to that position. Cde Ndaba dismissed media reports suggesting that some members were demoted to less powerful positions over issues to do with factionalism. He said the provincial meeting during the weekend had nothing to do with demotions.

“We are disturbed to learn that some unscrupulous members are entertaining the private media peddling falsehoods on what transpired during the executive meeting,” said Cde Ndaba. Cde Ndaba said high on the agenda during the meeting was registration of members as voters during the BVR registration programme in readiness for the 2018 general elections.

He said the party targeted to register at least 500 000 votes in the 2018 general elections, which will be almost a double figure as compared to 285 000 members who voted for the ruling party in 2013 general elections in Masvingo province.
