THE 20th Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference will focus on reviewing the progress made by the ruling party in the implementation of policies and programmes for the consistent socio-economic growth of Zimbabwe.

The conference will be held in Gweru under the theme, “Towards Vision 2030 through Devolution, Industrialisation and Modernisation” which gives impetus to the party to recalibrate its strategies and policies for the speedy attainment of Vision 2030.

Addressing journalists at a post-Politburo media briefing in Harare yesterday, Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa said the conference will focus on how to improve the livelihoods of the people.

“The discussions we held today were mostly on how the conference will be run and also looked at various issues and agenda items of the conference.

“We are going to receive a detailed report on agriculture on how to prepare our land, we will dwell much on the coming farming season,” he said.

“Elections are over, we are now focusing on governance. As we enter the summer cropping season we are now focusing on how to counter the El Nino. Our focus in Gweru will be how to deliver a better life for our people. Our delegates who will be over 3 000 come from different generations’.

Cde Mutsvangwa added that the Second Republic is attracting investors through the engagement and re-engagement foreign policy.

“Investors are coming to the country because they are seeing what the President is doing in terms of attracting investment.

“Delegates in Gweru will be apprised of what the President is doing around issues of development and investment promotion. The issue of drugs was also discussed. Our message resonates with the electorate.

“We believe as we go into 2028 more and more people will drift towards Zanu PF as we will be pushing our rural industrialisation programme,” said Cde Mutsvangwa.

Delivering prosperity to the people of Zimbabwe, he said, will be the centrepiece of the Zanu PF conference in Gweru.

“We were mainly deliberating on the administrative aspects of the conference. We are not like CCC who are disorganised and boast about being disorganised.

“They say we want to be invisible because we fear security personnel, but security personnel are not the voters. Why are you scared to face the people? It’s because you are a power grabber, he grabbed power from Tsvangirai in Buhera.

“CCC takes instructions from the West, unfortunately the West does not tell him (Nelson Chamisa) how to organise a party, he comes through emissaries to the President wanting to strike a deal in the absence of the CCC leadership. This is not what Zanu PF does, we are an organised party,” said Cde Mutsvangwa referring to the ructions in the opposition party that is now desperate for dialogue with Zanu PF.

More than 3 000 delegates are expected to attend the Annual People’s Conference, which started yesterday with a Politburo meeting. A Central Committee meeting will be held today, and tomorrow is travelling day, while the official opening will be on Friday.
