Elections will only be held after the national disciplinary committee, chaired by the party’s national chairperson, Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo conclude pending disciplinary matters that have been submitted to the organ.
In an interview, Zanu-PF provincial acting chairperson, Cde Reuben Marumahoko, said only the provincial women’s wing would hold elections to fill the post of the chairlady being held in an acting capacity by Hurungwe East MP, Cde Sarah Mahoka.
Some of the cases that are still pending before the national disciplinary committee are for former provincial chairperson, Cde John Mafa, who left office following a vote of confidence against him.
Another disciplinary case is that of Central Committee member, Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, who was accused of campaigning for the Simba Makoni-led Mavambo movement during the 2008 elections.
Former provincial chairman, Cde Philip Chiyangwa, had his case lodged with the national disciplinary committee after the party’s provincial co-ordinating committee endorsed his co-option in Makonde district co-ordinating committee when it met in Banket last week.
“There will be no election for the chairperson of the main wing,” said Cde Marumahoko, who is also the Hurungwe Senator.
During its provincial co-ordinating committee meeting, the party had emphasised the need to hold elections and fill vacant posts, but also noted that the process has to be done with the concurrence of the national chairman, in particular where disciplinary issues are involved.
Cde Marumahoko said today’s event would see youth and women’s wings holding their provincial inter-district conference.
Zanu-PF chairman, Cde Khaya-Moyo, would be the guest of honour.
“The conference will centre on an audit of the party programmes that came from the 2009 national annual people’s conference and the National People’s Congres in Mutare 2010,” said Cde Marumahoko.
“We will focus on how far we have implemented the programmes.”
Cde Marumahoko said progress on restructuring of the party would be discussed, as well as the indigenisation policy and the forthcoming farming season.
He said at least 1 074 delegates were expected to attend from 355 party districts from six administrative districts in the province.
