ZANU PF Mashonaland West Province has joined the nation in mourning and honouring Brigadier-General (Retired) Methias Tizirai Ngarava.
He was 66.
President Mnangagwa conferred national hero status on Brig-Gen (Rtd) Ngarava in recognition of his distinguished service and unwavering commitment to the defence of Zimbabwe’s sovereignty today.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere announced the conferment of national hero status by President Mnangagwa this morning at the Ngarava home in Chinhoyi’s Mapako Phase 2 suburb.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi and Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo, accompanied him.
The two spoke highly of Brig- Gen (Rtd) Ngarava. Zanu PF provincial chairman, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, said in a condolence message that the province was poorer without Brig Gen (Rtd) Ngarava, who was also a dedicated farmer.
“He was a loyal patriot whose life reflected discipline, sacrifice and devotion to the ideals of the liberation struggle. His contribution to national security and unity will remain a lasting inspiration to generations to come,” she said.
“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the Ngarava family, comrades and the entire nation. Zimbabwe has lost a gallant son whose legacy will forever be cherished. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Provincial youth chairman, Cde Tapiwa Masenda, urged youths to emulate good deeds and sacrifices made by the National Hero, whose unwavering patriotism continued even after Zimbabwe got its independence.
Brig-Gen (Rtd) Ngarava was born on March 27, 1959 and joined the liberation struggle before joining the Zimbabwe Defence Forces after independence in 1980.
He rose through the ranks until he retired as a Brigadier General.
He is survived by two wives Winnet and Loveness, five children and seven grandchildren.
