ZANU-PF Matabeleland North chairman Cde Richard Moyo who is also the party candidate for Umguza constituency says he has proven to be a good leader as he has been the longest saving chair in the party in the country.
In an interview, Cde Moyo said he was the only provincial chair who has served since 2011 when he was elected.
All the others have been fired or replaced.
“Of all the provincial chairpersons whom we were elected into office together in 2011, they were all fired from office for certain reasons but I have remained one man standing until today.
“This really shows me something that leaders are born and not made, and I believe I was born,” he said.
He said his dance with politics started in the 1990s and since then he has served the party from ward level.
Cde Moyo was re-elected chairman of the province in 2013.
He said his loyalty to the party and its leaders have seen surviving all the purges that met some of his colleagues in other provinces over the years.
“I learnt one thing, that politics is a game of numbers because if you get more numbers of votes you are then a winner.
“Anyone can play this game as long as you know where to score the ball.
“What keeps one as a leading player is loyalty to the supporters and to his coaches. I am still growing in leadership but what I will advice anyone who loves this game is that stay focused, loyal and be a great listener,” he said.
Cde Moyo said he has started campaigns in the constituency and was confident he will win.
Home Affairs Minister Cde Obert Mpofu is the legislator for the constituency but opted to contest for a senatorial seat during this year’s elections.
“People are coming to our rallies and I am amazed by the support. Definitely Zanu-PF will retain the seat,” he said.
