ZANU-PF Matabeleland North province will tomorrow meet to discuss issues relating to the party’s elective congress in December. Party provincial secretary for administration Cde Clifford Sibanda yesterday said he had been told about circulars sent to the province by the party’s national headquarters but would not get into details.

“We’re holding a Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting according to our party constitution that stipulates that we should meet three times annually,” said Cde Sibanda who is also the Bubi member of the National Assembly.

“I was called from my office about the circulars but I’m not aware of the contents. They will be read at the meeting.”
Zanu-PF politburo member Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu on Sunday warned against premature announcements of candidates by any member before calls for nominations.

Dr Ndlovu said this during a Bulawayo Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting while delivering a report on directives from the party’s National Disciplinary Committee and National Coordinating Committee.

He said members could hold private consultations but were not allowed to organise illegal meetings and campaigns disguised as celebrations that are not sanctioned by the province.

Dr Ndlovu warned against factionalism and vote-buying in the party and encouraged provincial chairpersons to take disciplinary measures against those found wanting.

His comments come at a time when there is jostling for the party’s vice presidency.
Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo is considered a front runner in the race to replace Vice President Cde Landa John Nkomo who died in January last year.

Other senior politicians who have expressed interest in the post include politburo members Cdes Kembo Mohadi and Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu.
Former Ambassador to South Africa Cde Phelekezela Mphoko has also expressed interest in the position.
