ZANU PF members, who are on a 263 km walkathon from Harare to Mutare, Manicaland Province, ahead of the ruling party’s People’s Conference, on Tuesday made a brief stopover in Marondera, the capital of Mashonaland East Province.

The team, mainly dominated by the party’s Environment and Tourism Department, planted trees, together with Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, before proceeding to Macheke, where they planted more trees.

Before planting trees in Marondera, the team had also planted trees in the Goromonzi district.

Addressing the team soon after planting trees in Macheke, Advocate Ndudzo encouraged them to be vigilant as they walked towards Manicaland.

He also commended them for taking care of the environment through planting trees along the way.

“I want to welcome you, our walkers, as you pass through our beautiful province. We were together yesterday in Goromonzi and today we have been in Marondera and now in Macheke in Murehwa district.

“Let me thank you heartily for what you are doing as a party, under President Mnangagwa. You have partnered with the Forestry Commission to ensure that when you pass through Mashonaland East, you beautify our province through planting a lot of trees.

“You are doing a great job, and as a province, the best province well known worldwide for its unwavering support of the ruling party, ZANU PF, we applaud you. We thank you for the job you are doing, that of protecting and restoring the environment, with the

wisdom and guidance from the Patron of the Environment, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa. This is commendable, and we say well done. We salute you.”

Minister Ndudzo said trees are a source of life, hence the importance of planting trees across the province.

He also called on Mashonaland East to plant more trees across the province.

Deputy Secretary for Environment and Tourism for ZANU PF Youth League, Harare Province, Cde Brian Tembo, said it is critical to preserve the environment.

“As youths, we are participating in building and beautifying our nation through planting trees,” he said.

“We are planting trees along the Harare-Mutare highway, so as we speak, we are now heading for Rusape, where we will plant more trees.

“The nation should know that we are serious about protecting the environment and we are not going back. Trees are a source of life.

“We want to thank everyone in Mashonaland East province who supported us. we will continue with our walkathon until we reach Mutare for the People’s Conference.”

The group is expected to reach the city of Mutare, which is hosting the ruling party’s People’s Conference, on Thursday.
