THE Zanu-PF Midlands executive has been given the greenlight to co-opt members following the passing of votes of no confidence on some provincial executive members in the run up to the party’s national congress last December. As a result of the votes of no confidence, there are nine vacant positions in the main wing, six in the women’s league and two in the youth league which should be filled.
Chairman Cde Jason Machaya was among those who were axed for allegedly fanning divisions in the party.
Provincial spokesperson Cde Cornelius Mpereri said the party’s national commissar, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, had given the province the go-ahead to co-opt members following his visit to Gweru last week where he met the provincial coordinating committee.
He said the vacant positions would be filled this coming Saturday.
“The national political commissar, Cde Kasukuwere, gave us the go-ahead to co-opt members and fill those posts in line with the party constitution. If the numbers of those who had vote of no confidence passed against them were over a third then the provincial executive was going to be dissolved.
“However, those who were axed from the executive don’t constitute more than a third, hence the call by the commissar to co-opt,” he said.
Cde Mpereri said some Politburo members would be seconded to oversee the process to be held at the party’s convention centre in Gweru.
The provincial spokesperson said minimum requirements for those who intend to be co-opted have already been drawn up.
