Zanu-PF will conduct primary election reruns in three local authority wards in Hwange district tomorrow.

The party conducted primary elections last month to choose candidates that will represent it in the upcoming harmonised elections.

In a circular 2 of 5/2023 dated May 3, 2023, Zanu-PF National Political Commissar Cde Mike Bimha said the re-runs will be held this Saturday May 6. Two of the wards are under Victoria Falls and one under Hwange Rural District Council.

“Reference is made to our previous circular directing provinces to prepare for primary elections and in some cases primary election re-runs or run-offs to be conducted on 6 May 2023. In this regard, you are hereby advised that these elections should be held,” reads part of the circular.

Boundaries for most of Victoria Falls wards were changed by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission during the delimitation process.

The city however, maintained the same 11 number of wards.

Cdes Prester Mwanda and Nonhlanhla Gasela had a tie in ward 5 where a rerun will be conducted, while Cde Innocent Luphondo and Cde Hilton Musarurwa will contest for a ticket to represent ward 7.

There was a tie between Cdes Mika Zulu and Bonginkosi in Chidobe ward 2 hence the re-run.

The party’s Secretary for Administration in Hwange District Coordinating Committee Cde Nkosilathi Jiyane read the notice of primary elections re-run at the party’s inter-district meeting in Hwange on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the party’s Secretary for Commissariat in Hwange Cde Elias Muzamba implored all local authority aspiring candidates to lead by example and pay up their bills and rates at their respective local authorities.

“All winning council candidates the message for you is to go and clear all local authority and local government arrears such as water bills, dip tank tax, cattle tax. Just clear everything that is in your name before election time. We have finished primary elections and now we are facing the real enemy so we need to be up to date and clean,” he said at the inter-district meeting. — @ncubeleon
