primary elections in the wake of the adoption of rules and regulations governing the conduct of the polls that will be held national in one day.
The decision was announced by national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo who is also the chairperson of the party’s National Elections Directorate at a press conference soon after the Politburo meeting in Harare last night.
“The NED met today and deliberated on a number of issues relevant to our primary elections. They reported to the Politburo and this is the position taken. We have had our guidelines approved by the Politburo and will be distributed to the provinces tomorrow,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the regulations would be made public today. He added that there would be inter-district meetings countrywide tomorrow (Saturday) where aspiring candidates are expected to submit their CVs and application letters.
“On June 16, provincial elections directorates will meet to receive CVs and letters from aspiring candidates in districts. The following day, the PEDs will forward their consolidated lists of approved and disapproved candidates to the NED.
“On June 18, the NED will consider submissions by the PEDs and make their recommendations for consideration by the Politburo. The Politburo will meet the following day to consider submissions by the NED and thereafter the chairman will announce the list signaling the campaigns of candidates,” he said.

Cde Khaya Moyo added that the Commissariat Department headed by Cde Webster Shamu would train polling officers between June 20-21. They would also produce and distribute the ballots and other election materials to be used during the primaries.
“On June 24, Zanu-PF primary elections will be held throughout the country. It will be a one day exercise and we hope by the end of the 24th the primary elections will be completed. The primary elections will be held on the same day using the secret ballot,” Cde Khaya Moyo said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the elections would be held under the supervision of the NED. He reiterated that there would be zero tolerance to the imposition of candidates.
“The Central Committee will meet soon after the names (of winning candidates) have been approved by the Politburo to approve the same before nomination day. We have emphasised time and again that there will be no imposition of candidates whatsoever,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF was confident of winning the harmonised elections to be held on July 31.
He also said that he had presented a report to the Politburo from the probe team he led on an exercise to reinvigorate the party’s structures throughout the provinces.
Cde Shamu said the Politburo had decided to appoint Cdes Rido Mpofu and Lloyd Siyoka to assist the Matabeleland South provincial leadership.
“Following the national chairman’s presentation of the report following the national tour, the Politburo, sitting in an extraordinary session today has taken a number of decisions on a number of major issues.
One of them is the appointment of Cdes Rido Mpofu and Lloyd Siyoka to be advisors to the Mat South executive. The two are former chairmen of Matabeleland South,” Cde Shamu said.
He however, said Cde Andrew Langa remains the chairman of the province.
Meanwhile the party also finalised its manifesto that would be launched soon by President Mugabe.
“We have finally concluded the writing of the manifesto. What remains now is to polish it up using recommendations made here and tie up the loose ends. It will be distributed after it has been launched by his Excellency the President,” Zanu-PF secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo said.
Cde Gumbo said the manifesto would cover a wide range of issues since the country attained independence in 1980.
